Join us in this educational opportunity to learn more about how a community and volunteers can work together to create and support a successful transition for incarcerated individuals after they are released.
Monday, January 15 5-7pm
New Leaf- New Life at 1010 South Walnut Suite H
For those who are able, we are asking volunteers to bring donations of standard (non-mechanical) pencils and/or lined loose-leaf paper to provide to incarcerated individuals in programming through the year.
5-6 p.m. - New Leaf New Life Re-entry Workshop
Join us to learn about strategies for developing a re-entry plan after incarceration. Our three primary goals:
- Support individuals who are re-entering our community in identifying their needs and knowing where to find the resources they need.
- Create a community that knows more about our resources to be allies to others who need community-based resources.
- Develop community-based volunteers who can lead re-entry planning workshops in our community and local jail to expand people’s knowledge and access.
Our workshop will be based on and supplemented with materials developed by incarcerated individuals in the Monroe County Jail Think Tanks.
6-7 p.m. - New Leaf New Life Crisis Workshop
Join us to learn about strategies for self-care and community-response to mental health crises. Our three primary goals:
- Support individuals who experience mental health crisis in identifying their needs and having the care and support they need when they encounter crisis
- Create a community that can respond to individual crisis or mental health breaks without calling the cops.
- Develop community-based volunteers who can lead crisis workshops in our community and local jail to expand people’s access to crisis supports
Our workshop will be based on and supplemented with materials developed by the Icarus Project and used in the Monroe County Jail.
