Description

Spiritual Companion

Do you regularly attend a faith community?

(Church, Temple, Synagogue, Mosque, etc)

Are you interested in making a new friend?

Are you interested in helping someone have access to their faith community?

You will be matched up with an individual who attends or wants to attend the same congregation. We will also consider the needs of the individual and the gifts, talents, and abilities you bring.  Whether you attend on a weekday or weekend - we welcome you and your support.

Supports may include (but not limited to):

- transportation to and from worship, congregational activities/events, etc.

- a friend to sit with

- Someone to talk to before, during, or after

- Maybe a friend to just hang out with occasionally

- Some may need more physical support and assistance

The goal is: to provide access and create meaningful relationships - thus moving past inclusion and toward BELONGING

Far majority of people with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities do have a faith tradition that is important to them. However,  many do not attend regularly. The two biggest reasons for this are: they don't feel welcome, and they don't have access (transportation). This leads to exclusion; exclusion from their faith, exclusion from meaningful relationships, and more.

This opportunity will not only enrich the life of your Spiritual Companion but also enrich YOUR life.
