The BSO is looking to grow its committee membership. Committees meet about once a month and offer a great way to take a hands on role in shaping the future of the BSO. Committees include Education and Outreach, Marketing and Communications, Operations and Development, and Governance. Education and Outreach (EO): The primary objective of the Education and Outreach Committee is to support the orchestra's mission of promoting a lifelong appreciation of and enthusiasm for music through activities such as the Youth Concerto Competition, the Children’s Instrument Recovery Program (ChIRP), side-by-side concerts, the Musical Ambassadors and Meet the Instruments Programs, and others. This committee also is responsible for representing the BSO at community events such as the Fourth Street Festival of the Arts.
Marketing and Communications (MC): The primary objective of the Marketing and Communications Committee is to promote the orchestra through advertising, earned media coverage, digital media, printed materials, merchandise, and other promotional efforts with the aim of increasing visibility, ticket sales, donations, and volunteer service. The committee also is responsible for managing and protecting the BSO brand.
Operations and Development (O/D): The primary objectives of the Operations and Development Committee are to secure funding (e.g., planned giving, sponsorships, advertising sales, individual donations), oversee the allocation of resources, and manage major changes in organizational operations.
Governance Committee (GC): The primary objectives of the Governance Committee are to recruit and retain effective board members, regularly monitor board performance, and strategize how the board can continue to develop to support the mission. The committee shall ensure that all board and committee projects/actions are actively working toward the organization’s objectives and regularly evaluate committee performance.
