First Saturdays: Invasive Plant Awareness Day—October 5
Saturday, Oct. 5, 1-4 p.m.
Event Description: This event is part of our brand-new 'First Saturdays' series—these are monthly volunteer opportunities to learn about invasive plant species affecting Bloomington's local ecosystems, how to properly remove and dispose of them, and putting that knowledge into action!
On the first Saturday of each month, March through November, our Vegetation Management staff train and lead a volunteer group to help clear invasive plants out of our parks and green spaces. Come be a part of an important environmental effort!
Individuals can register by clicking the button below, but this is also an excellent volunteer opportunity for groups of all sizes! To register as a group, contact Sarah Owen at parksvol@bloomington.in.gov.
Duties: For our 'First Saturday' in September, we'll be removing various types of invasive plants such as privet and Asian Bush Honeysuckle around Olcott Park and the Goat Farm.
Volunteer Ages: 12 yrs. and up (Volunteers under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult). Volunteers under the age of 18 must have an Underage Waiver of Liability signed by a parent or guardian and must bring it with them when they arrive for their shift
