Calling all book fanatics! The Hoosier Hills Food Bank is looking for hard-working volunteers to help set up and work our Bloomington Community Book Fair. This exciting event at the Monroe County Fairgrounds is one of the largest fundraisers for our hunger relief programs and attracts 4,000 guests. Over 90,000 books, media items and games will be available while food trucks and other activities are happening. Volunteers are invited to take a shift as one of the following: Runners-This volunteer works with Better Books, Stamps and Coins and post cards to run unpaid items to holding for future payment. Runners may also help customers get larger loads or heavy loads to holding for customers. Also helps when time allows, making boxes for book display and running out loads of trash and recycling from sales floor. Organizers -This volunteer works on the main sales floor and the back sales floor to straighten books, unpack books to fill in as products sells and helps to keep the sales floor general tidy, restocked and organized. Also helps make boxes for displaying books and helps move and break down smaller amounts of cardboard and plastic recycling. Movers -This volunteer works generally on moving things around the book fair before, during and after, this includes moving boxes of books to tables by category, moving and placing book shelves, taking books down from tables after the event, helping customers move heavy and large amounts of books to cashiers, setting up tables and breaking down and setting up the event in general. Holders -This volunteer works in the holding area, although the Hewins' help to set up and manage this area it will require additional volunteers to make sure it runs smoothly. The volunteer will work with customers and cashiers to ensure accurate pricing and labeling occurs when creating a customer space for holding. This volunteer may also be doing totaling and counting of book amounts and total amount owed by customer. Greeters -This volunteer is person is responsible for accurately counting each customer that comes into the Book Fair, distributing maps and materials and also distributing book bucks for canned food donations. The volunteer schedule is as follows: SET UP SHIFTS: Sept. 29th- Oct. 5th-You can set your own schedule with the volunteer coordinator on these days between 9am and 5pm.
