MFU is a Bloomington-based educational nonprofit inspired by Poland's underground Flying Universities, which defied authoritarian censorship by teaching forbidden knowledge. We carry that tradition forward: our mission is to teach the topics that are being banned, discouraged, or distortent in public schools and universities.
We focus on censored topics, silenced histories, and banned books. We also provide content around media literacy and democratic erosion. Then, we help learners turn that knowledge into meaningful action.
We're looking for one additional board member who shares these values and wants to help the organization grow. We'd especially love to hear from educators and people with experience in fundraising, marketing, and outreach. But if you care about this work and bring good-faith energy, we'd love to talk to you regardless of your background.
