Please join the IU Asian Culture Center and the City of Bloomington at the kickoff celebration of the 2025 Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month on March 27, 2025 at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. The event’s featured activities represent the diversity within IU and the broader Bloomington community. It includes a showcase of cultural performances and fashion show, arts and crafts for kids, and Asian food trucks. This event is open to all ages, there will be something for everyone!
Time and Location:
There are two portions of AsianFest, 5:00 – 7 pm, outdoor portion is a street block festival on Walnut Avenue and Washington on 6th Street; 7 pm to 8:30 cultural performances inside Buskirk Chumley Theatre, 114 E. Kirkwood Avenue, Bloomington , IN 47408.
Volunteer role examples:
1) Set-Up (3 pm) and Tear Down (7 pm)
2) Crowd Control (4:30-7 pm): Assist in managing crowd flow and making sure things stay organized both inside and outside the theater.
3) Trash Cleanup (4:30-7 pm)
4) Tabling Monitors (3-7 pm): Help our tabling organizations get settled upon arrival and periodically check with them throughout the event.
5) Crowd Counters (4:30-7 pm) : Assist and estimate the amount of people coming into the outdoor portion of Asianfest.
6) Backstage Assistants (5:30-8:30pm): Serve as a bridge of communication between our emcees and tech/sound crews (no tech or sound experience necessary!). Please arrive in time for dress rehearsals at 5:30.
7) Performance Assistants (5:30-8:30 pm) : Help emcees keep performers on schedule and aware throughout our cultural show. Please arrive in time for dress rehearsals at 5:30.
8) Theater Ushers (6-8:30 pm): Greet guests and help them find either available seats or designated seats for performers.
9) Photography and Videography (5-8:30 pm): Take pictures and videos to capture moments during the event for our media marketing team (experience in photography and videography encouraged).
