Beacon Inc. could not provide its comprehensive services without the support of volunteers. We are very grateful for your interest in our organization – especially now, as we continue to work to rebuild our volunteer pool this past year and a half. At this time we need help at Shalom Center’s hospitality desk and kitchen. Generally, we ask that volunteers commit to a weekly two-hour shift for a minimum of three months, but other options can be discussed if that does not wok for you.
- Kitchen Volunteers work in Phil’s Kitchen between 7:30 am and 2:00 pm. Duties include helping with meal preparation, serving, managing the coffee station, and clean up.
- Hospitality Volunteers work at Shalom Center between 8 am and 4 pm. Duties include managing guests’ mail, signing up guests for services, distributing supplies, assisting with long-term storage and day storage, and fielding a variety of phone calls and in-person inquiries.
Location & Parking:
Orientations are conducted at Shalom Center, located at 620 S. Walnut which is a half-block south of 1st Street. It is a two-story, blue building on the left, and in the front there is a gazebo containing a big, mirrored heart. The small parking lot in the rear of the building is full during business hours on weekdays. You can park on Wylie or 1st Street - any of the side streets on the east side of Walnut. Your entrance is on the south side of the building. A center staff member is usually posted at that entrance and they will direct you to me (if I am not already down there, which I usually am). We require that volunteers continue to wear a mask at this time.
Thank you for your interest in serving those community members who are most vulnerable, and I look forward to hearing from you!
