A reception with light refreshments will follow.
This year marks the 35th anniversary of Monroe County CASA advocating for children in Monroe County. The program launched with a seed grant from the American Bar Association/Indiana Law and Child Protection Project, and in-kind contributions of goods and services from Family Service Association, Legal Services Organization, private attorneys, the South Central Community Mental Health Center, and the City of Bloomington. In its first year, the program served 10 cases involving 14 children. In 2018, the program advocated for 709 children on 349 cases. Over 180 volunteers gave nearly 12,000 hours to abused and neglected children in Monroe County last year.
CASA is a volunteer-powered program which provides representation in juvenile court for child victims of abuse and neglect. They provide support to these children to ensure that they remain at the forefront of the court proceedings and find a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible.
