About Us

Opportunity House is a local volunteer-run resale store. All proceeds support Monroe County United Ministries and money raised by Opportunity House stays in Monroe County to help those in need.

What We Do

Opportunity House sells gently used clothing and other items at low prices so that those struggling to make ends meet can afford to shop with us.

Our proceeds go to support Monroe County United Ministries (MCUM), especially their, nationally accredited, income based childcare and their self sufficiency programs.

MCUM clients can also receive a voucher to shop at Opportunity House for free.

Numerous research studies have shown that high-quality early childhood education can have a long-lasting impact on the child, the family, and the broader community. Research indicates that quality early childhood education is one of the best investments a community can make. MCUM's current childcare capacity is for 97 children.

MCUM also offers coaching and resource assistance to families and individuals of the Monroe County community who are experiencing hardship. Their program serves to make sure that these crises don’t have to leave families hungry, cold, or faced with utility shut-off or eviction. Whether this crisis is short or long term, MCUM helps clients form a tailored plan of action.

About Orientation

During the training orientation, we will give a brief tour of the store and will talk about the various volunteer slots we have available. This will take a maximum of one hour.

A short training in pricing/tagging will take place at the end of the tour for those who wish to learn. Volunteers interested in other areas will be able to arrange a start date.

If you have any questions about our volunteer opportunities or the training orientation, please feel free to email us at nicolabp@juno.com
