Description

We are in need of additional volunteers for our Reality Store® event on Friday, December 9th, at Batchelor Middle School

Description: The Reality Store® is a simulation that helps students appreciate the 'realities' of life and achieve a better understanding of personal finance.  Prior to the event, in class, each student is assigned an educational level based on their GPA and the average salary of a 28-year-old working with that degree.

The students then visit 16 stations (staffed by you, our volunteers) to determine how to spend their salaries and make ends meet, budgeting for transportation, housing, clothes, food, and so on.  This wonderful volunteer opportunity enlightens students and encourages them to consider extending their educational careers.

Over 200 students will be in attendance to participate in this hands-on exercise which will teach them the importance of budgeting and help them see the impact that their grades can have on their future. We need around 65 total volunteers to make this event happen.

Shifts: There are 3 volunteer shifts available for this event:

   Shift 1 – 7:30 a.m. – 9:35 a.m. (free breakfast)
   Shift 2 – 9:20 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. (free lunch)
      Lunch from 11:12 a.m. – 11:42 a.m.
   Shift 3 – 11:10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. (free lunch)

Volunteers are welcome to sign up for one or multiple shifts. Each shift is set so that volunteers arrive about 15 minutes before the students come in. You do not need to arrive any earlier than the shift indicates.

To volunteer, be sure to email jsummer@chamberbloomington.org.

Background Check Required: Since you will be interacting with students, MCCSC requests that all volunteers fill out a free background check consent form and have it returned to us 2 days prior to the date of the event. This document and the information contained on it will be treated with a great care to ensure the privacy of all volunteers.
