Brown County Humane Society

About Us

The Brown County Humane Society is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to helping the homeless pets of Brown County. We are a progressive, open-admission shelter, accepting any cat or dog in Brown County, regardless of health, age, or breed.

No animals are euthanized at BCHS unless they are suffering and beyond care or considered to be a danger to the community and beyond rehabilitation. BCHS has been nationally recognized as an example of a highly successful rural shelter and regularly achieves a 98% or higher save rate.

Little Shelter, Big Results.

What We Do

BCHS provides rescue, medical care, hospice care, and adoption for over 600 animals every year.

Adoptable animals are available at our shelter in Nashville, as well as at the Petco in Bloomington and Petsense in Seymour.

Our community outreach program offers low-cost spay/neuter services, temporary pet food assistance, and other services to help residents keep their pets in their homes.
