Hoosier Asian American Power (HAAP) organizes to ignite Indiana’s Asian Americans to build grassroots power for visionary change. We champion community-centered policymaking as a pathway to equity and justice.
We are unique in Indiana as the hub for Asian American-identifying women, girls, and non-binary individuals committed to feminist advocacy.
HAAP’s work expands on the grassroots organizing we initiated as the Indiana Chapter of the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF). In our previous iteration, we aimed to lift up the voices of Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander women, girls, and allies statewide. Between 2020 and 2023, as NAPAWF Indiana, we did groundbreaking work to educate and mobilize Asian American voters and promote racial equity, voter protection, and reproductive justice. Through this growth, we come into our own as HAAP.
Areas of Focus
Our advocacy focuses on three specific issue areas:
Racial equity. We are committed to combating anti-Asian racism and violence and promoting policies and programs that build safe and inclusive communities for Asian Americans and all Hoosiers.
Healthy democracy. Viewing civic engagement as a critical path for improving the lives of Asian American Hoosiers, we are committed to protecting voting rights, supporting voter education around Asian American issues, and mobilizing Asian American voters in Indiana.
Reproductive justice. As an organization grounded in feminist values, we are committed to protecting reproductive rights and advancing just policies that safeguard the well-being of women and femme Asian Americans and their families.
