Bloomington Severe Winter Emergency Shelter

About Us

Bloomington Severe Emergency Winter Shelter (BSWERS) provides a warm, safe place to sleep for individuals who do not have shelter during severe winter weather. Bloomington's multi-faith community collaborated to form BSWERS in early 2024, in response to a lack of sufficient shelter in Bloomington during severely cold nights, especially for women. BSWERS was designed using the guidelines and concept of our community's former winter emergency shelter, Bloomington Interfaith Shelter.

What We Do

Bloomington Severe Emergency Winter Shelter (BSWERS) provides emergency shelter during extreme winter weather, relying on the generosity of volunteers and local churches for supplies and space. BSWERS depends on volunteers to set up our spaces, check in guests, and provide supervision throughout the night. BSWERS currently partners with First Christian Church, First United Methodist Church, and First Presbyterian Church as our host sites.
