About Us

Bloomington Severe Emergency Winter Shelter (B-SWERS) provides a warm, safe place to sleep for individuals who do not have shelter during severe winter weather. Bloomington's multi-faith community collaborated to form B-SWERS in early 2024, in response to a lack of sufficient shelter in Bloomington during severely cold nights, especially for women. B-SWERS was designed using the guidelines and concept of our community's former winter emergency shelter, Bloomington Interfaith Shelter.

What We Do

Bloomington Severe Emergency Winter Shelter (B-SWERS) provides emergency shelter during extreme winter weather, relying on the generosity of volunteers and local churches for supplies and space. B-SWERS depends entirely on volunteers to set up our spaces, check in guests, and provide supervision throughout the night. B-SWERS currently partners with First Christian Church and First United Methodist Church as our host sites.

Interested Volunteers can learn more about what is expected of them by referring to the Volunteer Manual at https://tinyurl.com/volunteer-manual and then signing up at https://tinyurl.com/winter-shelter-volunteers.
