People's Cooperative Market

About Us

People's Market is more than a market!

We operate a weekly market with local produce from BIPOC, LGBTQ, women & small farms. Along with a weekly rotation of artisan craft makers and food vendors. Ranging from jewelry to homemade jams to baked items to hot food from different cultural and ethnic groups.

Along with space for other non-profits, wellness groups and research orgs to set up to talk to the community.
Additionally we have the People's Greenhouse on property where we grow food for the market and have community growing plots available too.

Additionally we have an ONLINE ordering system for those who want FRESH local veggies and eggs from our CSA program. You get locally produced seasonal veggies for $15 and farm fresh eggs for $5 and you can sign up to get it every week! Pick up or Delivery.

Our market is every Saturday 10am to 2pm ALL YEAR in an Indoor space.

What We Do

We are an all volunteer co-op that focuses on food justice, food sovereignty and ending hunger in Monroe County. We do this by feeding families on a weekly basis with our CSA (community/co-op supported agriculture) food bags each week that contain a variety of locally grown seasonal veggie and a carton of locally produced eggs.

Additionally we provide space in our Greenhouse for families to grown their own food in our community plots, with plans for expansion into more greenspace area around the church lot.
We provide education opportunities to learn about growing food, cooking food, gathering wild food and preserving food.

Our weekly market is an small business incubator space where small starter businesses can set up weekly to engage with the public and sell their products. We have monthly special events design to highlight and encourage engagement in the market and community that we have at People's by inviting the public into our space for these special events.

Our online CSA ordering give you the option of selecting delivery or pick-up for your wonderful CSA order. You can even select a monthly subscription or a 6 month subscription. Ensuring you get first pick of the lovely seasonal veggies and eggs on offer each week. OR you can simply come into market and buy your CSA there.

Also you can come and get a CSA or just some veggies and or eggs fusing out sliding scale that ranges from $0-$30 for the in person CSAs. We use a self assessment sliding scale where you pick what level you can support the market. IF you are in NEED you get your CSA in FREE and we do not need any paperwork to check to see if you are in need it is all self assessment.

We work with local and regional non-profit organizations to get our CSA's to families in need in our community. We do this via donations, CSA purchases (donations) & non-profit grants. Our grant dollars do the bulk of the work ensuring we can continue to feed local families and ANYONE who comes to us in need. Our donor & grant money does not goes to anything it shouldn't, non-approved items or to pay our volunteers. Although we currently have a special limit time grant to pay for our greenhouse manager but that is the only paid position in our whole organization.

More about our organizational ethos:
We have been around since 2020 and have continued to evolve in many ways with many incarnations of lead volunteers and organizers. We seek transformational community interactions and transparency with all of our volunteers, vendors and community partners. We use restorative justice to contend with any disputes and issues knowing that sometimes community can be difficult to maintain & disputes can be loud, involve yelling, crying, hurt feelings & departures. We embrace conflict as a means to understanding opposing viewpoints as long as those viewpoints are not rooted in oppression, abuse and or white supremacy.

We strive for intersectional anti-racism in all the work we do. We are in complete solidarity with the Black community especially with Black women, the LGBTQ community especially our Trans siblings and other oppressed communities like Indigenous, Latino/a/e, disabled, immigrant & refugee peoples in Monroe County & elsewhere.
