About Us

We are a small organization committed to helping foster and kinship families meet the needs of children and teens in their care. We receive clothing, baby equipment, toys, books, and bedding from donors and provide it to people who are taking care of foster children and children of relatives and friends, as well as families living in shelters and children who have experienced abuse. We also try to help other very needy families with children. Everything we offer is free.

The Foster Closet is a non-profit project of the Center for Sustainable Living.

What We Do

Our aim is to provide kids’ and teens’ clothes, equipment, toys, books, and linens to foster and kinship families when they are in need, as well as those who have aged out of foster care, families in shelters, and children who have experienced abuse.

Everything is provided FOR FREE, and we can deliver within Monroe County. If you are a foster family - OR IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY RAISING A RELATIVE'S OR FRIEND'S CHILDREN, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU HAVE LEGAL FOSTER CARE STATUS – please contact us at this email address: mcfostercloset@gmail.com or call or text 812-345-5073 and tell us what you need.

We currently have clothing in all sizes for kids and teens, some baby equipment, bedding, and stuffed animals, books, and toys. We provide items to all children in the family, not just the fostered child.

We are also pleased to accept gently used or new donations of these items from any donor, or to hear from prospective donors as to what items they have available.

Help us spread the word! We'd like to help all the grandmas and aunts and uncles out there who are raising their grandkiddos or other relatives' children or teens. We are not affiliated with any religious group or government agency, and you incur no obligation at all in accepting our help. We just want to support you in your vitally important effort!

WE ESPECIALLY NEED boys' clothes sizes 2-10 and girls' sizes 4-12. But we're glad to receive all sizes of clothing, including juniors/adult sizes up through 3XL. We can always use all sizes of underwear, socks, and pajamas.

We must decline donations of adult clothes in styles that teens are unlikely to wear, toys that require batteries, and toys of a violent nature, such as toy guns and darts.

If you have gently used children's or teens' clothing that you no longer need, we will be happy to find it a good home!
