We are expanding patient transportation and are now accepting applications for Volunteer Drivers.
Van drivers needed - van and gas provided - for veterans' medical appointments at Roudebush Veterans Administration Medical Center in Indianapolis. Drive veterans for routine appointments - hear their stories, visit, support them and laugh with them. Chose one day a month to drive - training and support provided. The schedule is provided - usually 7 a.m. - 2 p.m, depending on the needs. Volunteers will be processed as Veterans Administration volunteers, including fingerprinting, TB test, physical, and orientation. Shift flexibility is offered with time off as needed. Students and snowbirds are welcome.
Veteran service organizations and volunteers throughout Indiana donate time and materials so that veterans have free access to transportation to medical appointments.

IMPORTANT - there is a process for volunteer onboarding that is required for VA volunteers that will qualify them for opportunities at ANY VA facility including the one in Bloomington. The process takes about 30 days to complete once an application is submitted.
This process and all of the steps are required to become a Volunteer VA Van Driver.
STEP 1: COMPLETE AN APPLICATION
- Go to https://www.cdceportal.va.gov/
- CLICK on "Volunteer or Donate" --> then click "Volunteer at a Facility" from the drop-down menu
- CLICK the Looking Glass icon to search and enter "Indiana" for the State
- CLICK the Looking Glass icon to search and enter "Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center" for the Facility
- COMPLETE the Contact and Availability Fields
- ADD "VTN Van Driver for Monroe County" to the Notes field at the bottom of the form
- CLICK SUBMIT
STEP 2: YOU WILL BE CONTACTED
- Your application will be reviewed by VA staff and you will be contacted to schedule a time to come to the Indianapolis VA to complete the next steps. You may ride the VA van to Indy for this appointment. The next steps include:
- Complete a Physical Exam and TB test
- Get fingerprinted for a federal background check
- Provide your driver's license and proof of personal vehicle insurance
STEP 3: VIRTUAL ONLINE TRAINING
- While your Background check is being processed (takes a few weeks), you can complete your online virtual training
STEP 4: CREATE AN ID.me LOGIN
- Once your Background check is received you will be able to be sponsored for an ID card through the VA
- You will create an ID.me account on the https://www.cdceportal.va.gov/ portal and be able to review available opportunities and log hours
- VA Van Driver Coordinator Kenneth Keller will communicate with you regarding driver needs and availability for clients traveling from Monroe to Marion County.
