BloomingOUT, WFHB’s weekly live public affairs program devoted to covering LGBTQ+ issues in Bloomington and beyond, is seeking a volunteer news reporter to research, write and produce stories relevant to the LGBTQ+ community. The reporter will contribute timely news pieces to the program, including local, state, national and international updates.

In this role, you will conduct interviews, gather information from multiple sources, and prepare stories for both on-air and web publication. Training will be provided and all levels of experience are welcome.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and write LGBTQ+-focused news stories for BloomingOUT.

  • Conduct interviews, on the phone or in person (or in Zoom), and select soundbites for air.

  • Package stories, which includes recording voice-over and editing together pieces.

  • Collaborate with the BloomingOUT team to ensure stories align with the program’s mission.

  • Monitor current events and emerging issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community.

Skills:
You will learn how to edit audio, record interviews, and write for radio and web publication. You will also gain experience in Wordpress, SEO and LGBTQ+-focused journalism.
