logoMany of us have depended on public lands during the pandemic. The Hoosier National Forest experienced unprecedented numbers of visitors. We are glad to have been here for you and hope you will continue to explore all that the Forest has to offer.
 
Hoosier National Forest's Give Back to Your Public Lands Day event offers you the opportunity to make a difference and assist with a variety of needs. Join fellow Forest users, staff, and partners to Give Back to Your Public Lands on National Public Lands Day.
 
Volunteers will have free entrance to Hardin Ridge for event and receive a free entrance voucher for a public land site.
 
Hardin Ridge Recreation Area
  • 9 am - 2 pm volunteer projects
  • 2 pm - 4 pm appreciation picnic with Woodsy Owl & guests

Project Opportunities:

  • Bench & sign replacement on Ted T Turtle Interpretive Trail, Hardin Ridge [1.5 mile hike]

  • Replace & paint wooden fence boards for horse corrals, Blackwell Campground [10 min drive]

  • Construct a section of the turnpike on trail, Blackwell Campground (Must be comfortable working around mules) [10min drive]

  • Shoreline trash & debris cleanup, Hardin Ridge [hiking up to 1 mile]

  • Campsite cleanup and rehab work, Hardin Ridge [at meeting site]

  • Paint over graffiti, Hickory Ridge Lookout Tower (Requires climbing 133 steps to top of lookout tower) [20min drive]

  • Shelter house repair and maintenance [at meeting site]
