About Us

The Y’s Mission

To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

What We Do

The Y’s Cause

At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, the Y works side by side with our neighbors to ensure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

No other nonprofit is quite like the Y. With a footprint in more than 10,000 communities, the Y is best positioned to meet unique community needs and respond to chronic and emerging community issues.

About the Y

The Y is one of the nation and Owen County’s leading nonprofits, committed to strengthening communities in the areas of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  For more information about the Y organization visit www.ymca.net

For Youth Development

Nurturing the potential of every child and teen. Nine Million youths are taking a greater interest in learning; making smarter life choices; and cultivating the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, the pursuit of higher education and goal achievements. The Y is piloting and testing evidence-based models to significantly expand their ability to provide early learning programs in low-income and immigrant communities. This will better prepare children for success in school. The Y is partnering with the Lumina Foundation to expand access to college and provide financial aid to more than 40,000 low-income high school seniors.

For Healthy Living

Improving the nation’s health and well-being. Millions of adults and youth receive the support, guidance and resources needed to achieve better health and well-being. The Y recently announced, in partnership with United Health Care Group, the expansion of their Diabetes Prevention program. This evidence-based program has been shown to eliminate diabetes in 50% of participants and is projected to serve 400,000 people over the next five years. In nearly all 50 states, Ys are collaborating to create sidewalks and virtual farmers’ markets that bring healthy foods at low cost to neighborhoods without access to fresh fruits and vegetables.
