About Us

The Monroe County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is a local subdivision of Indiana state government responsible for leadership in the conservation of Monroe County’s natural resources. The district is governed by a board of five supervisors who are county residents.

What We Do

The District works closely with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), Purdue Cooperative Extension, the City of Bloomington, and other state and federal agencies. In partnership with the NRCS and IDNR, MCSWCD provides technical assistance to farmers, homeowners, businesses, and industry. The district also works with units of local, state, and federal government to address issues of land use, conservation planning, and resource development.
