About Us

As South-Central Indiana’s largest shelter provider, Wheeler Mission—Bloomington offers low-barrier emergency lodging and residential, long-term transformative programs for men experiencing homelessness.

IMMEDIATE VOLUNTEER NEED: Serving at or before Wheeler Mission--Bloomington's upcoming Dash 4 Shelter 5K run/walk, taking place on Saturday, December 2, starting and finishing at Karst Farm Park.  Dash 4 Shelter volunteer opportunities can be referenced here.

What We Do

Wheeler Mission—Bloomington’s team offers the following services for our guests:

  • Nightly Emergency Shelter: Accommodations for guests working second and third shifts, as well.
  • Community Day Room Services: Our Westplex Avenue day rooms are open daily from 6 am-9 pm (television viewing, phone service, Wi-Fi, clothing, showers, and case management services).
  • Meals (Open to our Guests and the General Public): Breakfast: 7 am-8 am; Lunch: 12 pm-1 pm; Dinner: 5 pm-6 pm. Snack served nightly 7-7:30 pm.
  • Life skills Classes: P/C basics, Microsoft Office Suite training, resume writing, job interviewing techniques, and other job readiness classes are available.
  • Case Management/Referral Services: Wheeler Mission--Bloomington collaborates with many local social service providers to help our guests navigate the sometimes-confusing service networks to get the resources they need. Some of the providers Wheeler Mission—Bloomington works with are: Centerstone, IU Health, Middle Way House, Meadows Hospital, Monroe Hospital, Bloomington Housing Authority, Healthnet, Beacon, FSSA, Social Security Administration, Bureau of Motor Vehicles, New Hope for Families, and many others.
