About Us
Our mission, is to educate the public about rural lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, & queer (LGBTQ+) people & issues in order to make Indiana a safer & more welcoming place. We provide a voice for the LGBTQ+ community to help foster an environment where there is no disparagement in opportunity simply because of one’s gender expression, sexual orientation, or related perceptions of the same.
We welcome everyone, gay & straight, to join us as we continue to cultivate a community of compassion & celebration for all people.
What We Do
The most important thing we’ve done is change lives! The lives of the Iris (our youth group) kids, the life of the person who moved from Indy to find a safe place to land, the life of the young man in an untenable living situation & so many more. This is the most important work we do & you can be a part of that. We know your time is precious & we’re grateful to those who recognize the importance of sharing it with us.
We have a wide range of volunteer opportunities.
Historic Tivoli Theater
Once a month the theater is staffed by Spencer Pride volunteers. This is a 4 hour once a month commitment and you get to watch the movie or get a free pass to come back & see another!
Unity
Unity is our retail space where we sell items hand-made by local artists. This involves greeting guests, promoting items, providing information about our services, & operating the register. The register is a simple system that people of all ages & experience levels can learn with relative ease. (must be 18 to operate) Unity is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10am to 7pm. Schedules are flexible. Some volunteer a few hours once a month, others once a week. We will work with your availability.
Iris Youth Group
For youth ages 12-19, primarily a social group. A few adult chaperones are required, but must go through standard background checks. Iris meets every Monday from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, with occasional special events.
Spencer Pride Festival
Occurs on the 1st Saturday in June. You can help us plan in advance or just help that weekend. Planning for next year’s festival has begun.
Other Events
Local or state-wide, you choose! Help us spread the word about our work by staffing a booth at one of many events we participate in. Examples include Harvest Moon Fest in Spencer, PrideFest in Bloomington, Back-to-School events, etc.
