Bloomington Clubhouse

Our team is made up of therapists, social workers, healthcare professionals, individuals living with mental illness and their family members, and other community members, spanning organizations like Centerstone, NAMI Bloomington, Indiana University, and IU Health. What brings us all together is a passion for mental health and the belief in community as a real, genuine healing mechanism for those struggling most. Our mission is to empower adults living with mental illness by cultivating a supportive and cooperative community where friendship, purposeful work, and mutual respect help members build fulfilling lives and reach their goals. Our vision is a Bloomington where every person living with mental illness has work that feels purposeful, ownership in something they help build, friends who know them, and confidence in the unique gifts they offer the world. Bloomington Clubhouse is guided by the internationally recognized Clubhouse International model, an evidence-based approach to healing that empowers members to build community, develop skills, and pursue meaningful lives through purposeful work and mutual support. In direct partnership with Centerstone and NAMI Bloomington, we are currently in the building process and are excited to bring a Clubhouse to Bloomington!

The Clubhouse is a cooperative community center where individuals with mental illness (called “members”) voluntarily work together to support the day-to-day operations and growth of the clubhouse. Alongside staff, members run the kitchen, work the front desk, conduct outreach, and support any other initiative the community desires. Through this, members gain friendship, an individual sense of purpose, and opportunities to learn skills, gain confidence, and reach their goals. With more than 400 Clubhouses operating in 32 countries, including 12 across Indiana, Bloomington is one of the largest Indiana communities still without this proven model of recovery. In partnership with Centerstone and NAMI Bloomington, we are working to bring one to Bloomington (and would love your help)!
