What We Do

The Monroe County chapter of the National Organization for Women in Bloomington, Indiana, is 100% driven by members who volunteer their time as members of the board, leaders of committees, and volunteers who show up when needed to do the work. There is always work to be done.

We have six core issues:

  1. Reproductive Rights and Justice
  2. Economic Justice
  3. Ending Violence Against Women
  4. Racial Justice
  5. LGBTQ+ Rights
  6. Constitutional Equality.

We promote these issues in Bloomington, Monroe County, other south central Indiana counties, as well as at the state and national levels through various actions determined by our volunteers.

These are just some examples of what our active members have helped us accomplish over the years:

  1. Create and promote an Free Uber Rides to the Polls program for both Primary and General Elections.
  2. Educate about abuse and trauma then pull together service days to help create care bags for women surviving such treatment and getting them into programs to help their thrive.
  3. Organization letter writing and phone banking sessions to keep members informed of potential legal changes and then put them in touch with elected officials to voice their concerns.
  4. Highlight the activist-artists in our community, giving them platforms to share their work, and co-sponsoring events that focus on creative ways to fight for our rights.
  5. Aid university organizations fighting for safety in our community by highlighting the dangers nighttime Bloomington, resulting in better lighting in parking garages and expanded rideshare programs to get people home.

And many more.

We just need more folk willing to put in the time and energy to create our next projects.
