Volunteer: Spiritual Companion
Spiritual Companion
Do you regularly attend a faith community?
(Church, Temple, Synagogue, Mosque, etc) Are you interested in making a new friend? Are you interested in helping someone have access to their faith community? You will be matched up with an individual who attends or wants to attend the same congregation. We will also consider the needs of the individual and the gifts, talents, and abilities you bring. Whether you attend on a weekday or weekend - we welcome you and your support. Supports may include (but not limited to): - transportation to and from worship, congregational activities/events, etc. - a friend to sit with - Someone to talk to before, during, or after - Maybe a friend to just hang out with occasionally - Some may need more physical support and assistance The goal is: to provide access and create meaningful relationships - thus moving past inclusion and toward BELONGINGFar majority of people with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities do have a faith tradition that is important to them. However, many do not attend regularly. The two biggest reasons for this are: they don't feel welcome, and they don't have access (transportation). This leads to exclusion; exclusion from their faith, exclusion from meaningful relationships, and more.
This opportunity will not only enrich the life of your Spiritual Companion but also enrich YOUR life.

Volunteer: Friendship Program
Do you want to make a new friend?
Do you like to go to the Bloomington Speedway, sport events, movies, concerts, hanging out with good company?
We are looking for volunteers who would like to make a new friend and take a buddy to these such events and activities. It can be difficult to meet new friends, especially when you don't have your own transportation. So this is an opportunity to meet new people, make friends, and have some fun. If you do not have experience in working with individuals with disabilities, that's okay. Don't let your own fears or anxiety stand in the way of this opportunity. We will meet you where you are. There will be an initial interview, training, background check, and drivers background check. First step is to click "respond" and Sarah McKenney will be in touch with you about how to get the fun started. Organization: Stone Belt
