Volunteer: 2026 Bluebird Monitor - Monroe County Parks and RecreationDo you love walking outside? Does birdwatching sound like a good time? Would you like to take a more active role as a citizen scientist? Monroe County Parks and Recreation has two parks located within Bloomington, IN that are homes to many bluebird houses that are monitored by the North American Bluebird Society. Throughout the nesting season, we need a volunteer to check on the status of each bluebird box and report the number and status of successful hatches. What is great about this opportunity is that you get to pick times and dates that work best for you, and you get to see the lifecycle of native birds from nest to flight. The season ends in September and has already started this year. Monitoring is done once every two weeks. Locations are Karst Farm Park and Will Detmer Park. There is a small interview process to determine if the volunteers are able to commit to the program and its requirements.
