Volunteer: Orchard Work & Learn Day - Sustainability Spooktacular

Join a work and learn day on Saturday, October 11 at the Bloomington Community Orchard (BC0)! Learn about how the orchard functions and grows a wide variety of fruits, herbs, and more. Be a part of it all through some hands-on fieldwork. Prune, mulch, compost, water, harvest, and even taste the produce.

BCO Staff will lead a tour of the orchard and provide volunteer instructions (no prior experience necessary). Dress for dirty outdoor work and bring your own water (there is no water available on-site).

...

Climate change might be spooky, but you can beat that fright by taking action during the Sustainability Spooktacular Challenge, hosted by the City of Bloomington Economic & Sustainable Development Department. The Bloomington Community Orchard Work & Learn Day is one of four hands-on community events throughout the month of October, where attendees will volunteer their time with an environmental organization and learn about sustainability. Attendees will have the chance to win a gift basket prize at this event! The fun continues online on the Zero in Bloomington platform, where participants sign up to explore climate-friendly actions; each action logged from October 1 to 31 will serve as an entry into a raffle pool for a prize.

Through this challenge, the City aims to raise awareness about how individuals’ choices impact the planet, and to uplift the goals of local organizations by attracting participation to their missions.

Learn more about the challenge on the City of Bloomington website here.

The Bloomington Community Orchard is an all-volunteer nonprofit (501c3), devoted to growing fruit trees and other perennial edible agriculture for the community to enjoy, while growing our orcharding skills through education and experience-sharing. The publicly owned orchard is maintained by volunteers, and the harvest is available to everyone.
