Volunteer: Bloomington Youth Basketball Season II Coaching

The Bloomington Youth Basketball (BYB) League focuses on basketball fundamentals and the application of learned skills during game participation for players in grades K-6. All leagues are coed through Grade 3; girls play in a girls-only league beginning in Grade 4.

Season includes weekly practices and games on one night a week. Teams practice two nights a week for the first week of the season, then one night a week for the remainder of the season.

Practice times and days are determined by the volunteer coach. Times can vary between 5:30-7:30 p.m. Parent/player requests for placement on specific teams are not accepted. All requests must be submitted by volunteer coaches.

Season runs October 12–December 10.
Practices begin the week of October 12. 
Games begin the week of October 19.
Games and practices are not held the week of November 23.


This volunteer opportunity registers you for the mandatory coaches' meeting and coach draft that will be held on SEPTEMBER 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Twin Lakes Recreation Center. While this opportunity registers you for this meeting, a season-long commitment is required for all coaches. Upon registering, you will immediately receive a confirmation email with more detailed information. Please review it carefully.

Duties: We are looking for coaches who can commit to once-weekly practices and one game per week. Time and day of games are determined by grade level. Volunteer coaches will enjoy making a difference in the lives of kids and can help develop our next big college basketball star.

Timeline: Prospective coaches sign up by SEPTEMBER 23. Selected coaches must attend a mandatory Coaches' Meeting and Coach Draft on SEPTEMBER 30 at 6:30 p.m.

Program Time: Coaches plan and lead one, one-hour practice per week and one, one-hour game per week.

Age of Volunteers: 18 and up.

Other: Returning coaches and parents have first priority for placement. Volunteers should commit for the entire season. All coaches are required to undergo a background check. Complete your required background check in advance online.
