Volunteer: Board Member

POSITION OVERVIEW

Board members of Hoosiers United Rugby Club serve as stewards of the organization’s mission to provide safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate rugby programs for youth across Monroe, Owen, Lawrence, Brown, Jackson, Greene, and Morgan counties. Board members are responsible for the governance, financial oversight, and strategic direction of the club.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Attend and actively participate in monthly board meetings and special committees as needed

• Provide strategic direction and oversight of club programs, finances, and operations

• Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and nonprofit governance requirements

• Approve annual budgets, financial statements, and major organizational decisions

• Support fundraising efforts, including grant applications, sponsorships, and community partnerships • Advocate for the club’s mission and values within the broader community

• Serve as a liaison between the club and the communities we serve across all seven counties

• Participate in the recruitment, evaluation, and development of club leadership

QUALIFICATIONS

• Commitment to the mission and values of Hoosiers United Rugby Club

• Willingness to devote time and energy to board responsibilities

• Experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: nonprofit governance, finance, legal, marketing, fundraising, youth development, or rugby

• No prior rugby experience required — passion for community impact is essential

• Must pass a background check (required for all board members working with youth)

TIME COMMITMENT

Board members serve a two-year term, renewable. The board meets monthly (typically 1–2 hours), with additional committee work as needed. Total commitment averages 5–8 hours per month.
