Join the New Volunteer Training on Thursday, November 13th from 6-7:15pm at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater (114 E Kirkwood Ave). RSVPs for this training are required.
Volunteering as an Usher
Buskirk-Chumley Theater volunteer ushers are responsible for making each event at the theater a success. Volunteers welcome and direct guests, take tickets, help patrons find their seats, hand out programs, and help to make the event run smoothly. Ushering at the BCT is a great way to get involved in arts and entertainment in Bloomington.
Requirements to Usher
- Be 16 years of age or older
- Be able to stand for the length of the performance and move within the theater quickly and easily
- Be able to read the small print on tickets and work in low light conditions
- Be friendly and willing to interact with patrons, staff, and other volunteers in a courteous manner
- Feel comfortable managing large crowds in normal and emergency situations
- Attend usher training
About the Buskirk-Chumley Theater
The Buskirk-Chumley Theater is one of the primary venues for the Lotus World Music Festival, African American Arts Institute, Limestone Comedy Festival, Granfalloon, Constellation Stage & Screen, and the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra. The theater hosts 200 events a year, put on by over 50 organizations! Come be a part of what is happening in Bloomington!

Volunteer ushers can request one complimentary ticket to an event at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater for every two shows they usher within a thirty-day period.
