About Us

The Monroe County History Center is a non-profit museum, genealogy/local history research library, educational facility and museum store that is housed in the historic Monroe County Carnegie Library. The History Center is self-sustaining.

What We Do

The History Center's mission is to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Monroe County’s history, culture, and natural environment. Our museum offers both permanent and rotating exhibits throughout the year giving Monroe County residents and visitors of all ages a chance to experience what life in Monroe County was like for diverse people at different times and to connect these stories with our lives today. Also, we offer a local history/genealogical research library and a museum store. The MCHC collects, preserves, researches, interprets, and exhibits the genealogy, history, and artifacts of Monroe County and helps fit the story of Monroe County into that of the State of Indiana and the United States. http://www.monroehistory.org
