Bloomington-Posoltega Committee, Sister Cities International

About Us

Mission - to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, & cooperation - one individual, one community at a time.

What We Do

The volunteer members of the Posoltega Committee meet monthly to work on the projects which we coordinate and sponsor with our sister city committee in Posoltega, Nicaragua.  Our major ongoing projects in the village of Posoltega are a hot lunch program for the neediest children 5 days a week, all year long, and a college scholarship program for 24  students to attend Nicaragua universities. In the summer of 2017, a delegation from Bloomington went to Posoltega and among other things purchased 5 sewing machines for an ongoing sewing project.

In Bloomington, we provide programs for groups to learn more about our sister city relationship with the people of Posoltega that has been active since 1988.  Volunteers work at informational booths at the farmers market and provide crafts and information at the city's annual Fiesta del Otono.  We also work closely with three MCCSC elementary schools, helping local students learn about the culture and people of Nicaragua and connecting them directly with classrooms and students in Posoltega.

This long, rich friendship between the people of Bloomington and the people of Posoltega is quite meaningful to all.  Please join us in our international mission of peace and understanding.
