Volunteer: Canine Express Driver

Drivers Needed! The CanINE Express Transport Project humanely transports shelter dogs from south central Indiana, -- areas with extreme pet overpopulation and high euthanasia rates due to kennel overcrowding -- to receiving shelter partners in Cleveland, Chicago, and the Northeastwhere there is a need for well-socialized, healthy dogs. Transports to Cleveland and Happy Tails Humane Society in Rock Falls, Illinois (1.5 hours west of Chicago)are organized on dates that work best for volunteer drivers. Longer transports to New England can also be arranged. CanINE Expresspays for the van rental and gasoline for this one-day trip. Drivers must be 25 years of age or older, a requirement of Enterprise Rental Car where we rent the cargo vans. Drivers must also be good night drivers since we travel overnight on Thursday evenings. Enterprise Rental Car has a "no smoking in transport vans" rule. Become a volunteer driver: Contact CanINE Express to get more info or schedule your dates.

Volunteer: Community Cat Boxes (Portable Project)

A Community Cat is a cat that has been fixed, vaccinated and eartipped then released back into the area from which it was captured. They are the unowned stray and  feral (unsocialized) cats who live outdoors in our neighborhoods without a particular home or owner.

But during the cold winters and rainy spring and fall, Community Cats could use some shelter to keep them warm and dry.

Individuals and groups are invited to construct these Community Cat boxes from household materials to make them available to Community Cats in our community.

The Monroe County Humane Association will make these Cat Shelters available to individuals who are caring for Community Cats in our town.

Since this project is done from home, each volunteer will need to provide his/her own equipment and supplies.

Volunteer: DIY Blankets for Nursing Facility Residents (Portable Project)

It's always cozier when you have a blanket to snuggle. These blankets provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to nursing facility residents who are aging, seriously ill, or otherwise in need. They are handcrafted by caring volunteers who want residents of nursing care facilities to know that someone cares about them. It is hoped that each blanket will become a treasured possession.

The gifts of new handmade blankets and afghans lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers" provides a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups for the benefit of ailing seniors.

Since this project is done from home, each volunteer will need to provide his/her own equipment and supplies.
